A different take on the classic brownie.

Ingredients:
1/4 cup shortening
1 cup brown sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp baking powder
1 egg
3/4 cup all purpose flour
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Spray bottom and side of 8×8 pan or line with parchment paper.
- In a 1 1/2 quart saucepan, melt shortening over low heat. Remove from heat and add brown sugar and vanilla. Add salt and baking powder. Mix in egg and flour until smooth.
- Spread in pan. Bake 20-25 minutes. Cool on wire rack before cutting.
