Mexican Bakery cracked Pink Sugar Cookies (Polvorones) Pan Dulce

The closest to those pink sugar cookies from the bakery.

Growing up in Guadalupe, Az. we had Flores Bakery within walking distance. When I went to the Mexican bakery and couldn’t decide what to get, the pink fluffy crackly looking cookie was my favorite. These cookies are the closest to what I remember from the panaderia.

Yield: 3 dozen (3 1/2 inch cookies)

Rest: 1 hr

Ingredients:

3/4 tsp salt

1 tsp baking powder

2 tsp baking soda

4 1/2 cups all purpose flour

1 3/4 cup shortening

1 1/2 cup sugar

2 tsp vanilla

2 eggs

few drops red food color

decorating sugar crystals

Directions:

  1. In a mixing bowl whisk together salt, baking powder, baking soda and flour, set aside.
  2. In another large bowl cream together shortening and sugar. Add vanilla, eggs and food color. When mixture is creamy, add the flour mixture slowly, mixing well. Dough will be thick. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate 1 hr.
  3. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper.
  4. Place decorating sugar in a small bowl. Roll 1/4 cup of dough (about 2oz) into a ball, roll top in sugar and place on baking sheet sugar side up. Place about 2 inches apart. Flatten each ball slightly with palm of hand. I bake about 8 on each sheet.
  5. Bake 12-14 minutes. Let cookies rest on baking sheet for 5 minutes then transfer to wire rack to cool. Repeat with rest of dough.

Do you remember this cookie from the Flores Bakery? Do you have a recipe that’s closer to the original? I would love the recipe. Keep me in mind.

What are the Goodwill ‘Bins”

Have you been to the Goodwill Outlet Clearance Center in Phoenix? The Bins?

The Outlet is where you can shop and pay by the pound. $1.39 a pound can buy you a lot of goodies for yourself. If you are a reseller, this is probably the best place to shop to keep inventory costs low.

It’s not for everyone. Do no expect a regular store. This is more of a warehouse in an industrial area of Phoenix and it’s hot. There are many hidden treasures waiting to be found. Grab some water, hand sanitizer and be ready for an arm workout.

Plan on at least 2 hrs. If you get there and there are carts available, grab one. Find a blanket, sheet or towel, cover your cart, park it along the side with everyone else’s and get shopping. Best thing to do is grab anything that looks good, dump in your cart and keep going. Inspect your items at the cart, tossing back anything that has flaws, tears or you change your mind. Wait at least 1 or 2 rotations for the best selections and to make your trip worthwhile.

My last trip to the bins was an unplanned trip and lasted a quick 30 minutes. 15 items + a book for myself at a total of $14.68. So far 12 items have been listed, 3 have sold and 2 have yet to be listed.

Some names I found on this quick trip were WHBM, Members Only, Nike, Levi’s, Express, Fox, Ann Taylor and Hurley. I also picked up a few cute pieces I knew would sell. There was a wool coat and a faux leather jacket that were quite heavy. All in all, not bad for less than $15 or about .94 cents per item.

I leave all my items in the tied up bag until they get washed. Dry clean only items get treated with an at home dry clean kit. Here’s what my last bins trip yielded.

Won Ton Dough

Ingredients:

1 egg

1/3 cup water

2 cups all purpose flour

1/2 tsp salt

Directions:

  1. In a small bowl, beat egg and water.
  2. In a large bowl combine flour and salt. Make a well in center of mixture and slowly pour in egg/water mixture. Mixing with a fork until a dough has formed. Slowly adding water as needed.
  3. Move dough to a lightly floured counter and knead a few times. Place dough back into bowl and cover with a damp towel for 10 minutes.

This dough is versatile and can be used in most recipes that call for won ton dough. Simply divide dough in half and roll each half to desired thickness and cut into 3 x 3 squares. This dough can also be used for a variety of appetizers. Roll, cut, fill and fry to crispiness.

Does the Poshmark 30mm Method Work???

The ever so popular 30mm Method. Does it work? Yes and no. No.

Poshmark is my favorite selling app to use and my busiest. I’ve done my share of everything to help with sales on Poshmark, along with this 30mm Method. I did join the Facebook group and had no guidance, after a short time I left the group and went about this on my own. No ones seems to want to share information on this with just anyone.

What is the 30mm Method? The following chart is what pops up every time a seller looks this up. Looks simple and doable. The title alone “Once A Day And Done” wow!

  1. As the chart shows, you edit share 30 of your items, simple, quick. Done.
  2. List 3 items-or relist. Simple and quick, we all have 7,532,459 pictures of clothing items on our phones. Done.
  3. Follow your followers, all of them…. Does not specify how many. Following everyone may take a while……
  4. Follow new closets from both categories just joined and fresh closets. Does not specify how many of each……
  5. Welcome 10 new closets. This is easy, but, I was just there at the last step…..
  6. Share back any activity from the last half hour. Was I supposed to keep track? Umm… i’m already 40 minutes into this…..

When I did this way back when, this took way longer than 30 minutes. I could have been doing this wrong, remember, no help from anyone. I did get more activity on my closet but ended up getting locked out or ‘jailed’ for following too many in a short period of time. Frustrating. I couldn’t be the only one out there.

So, I came up with my own method that works for me!!!

Pretty easy to follow. I do this most mornings on the treadmill. 60 minutes is what I allow to do this and repeat as much as I can.

  1. Self share 30 of your own items. I know 30 isn’t a lot, you’ll repeat this.
  2. Return shares. I pick 5 closets from my notifications and share 5 items from each closet. Most will return these shares too.
  3. Follow active sellers. Go to find people, My brands-pick any, sort by active sellers at the top. Follow 30. Most of these will follow you and share your items-you’ll return shares in a bit when you repeat the steps.
  4. Edit, next, list 10 of your own items.
  5. Follow 10 just joined Poshers. Send them a ‘welcome’ note.
  6. Self share 30 items.
  7. Follow 10 fresh closets, share their items, and comment.
  8. Relist 5 of your own items. If you don’t have pictures available, take screenshots, copy and past descriptions. This gets faster, trust me. I relist according to the upcoming parties. That way your item shows up in the ‘First Look’ tab.
  9. Repeat if you have time.

Poshmark is a social app and can be needy. Doing this or your own version of the method will keep you active in all the areas required. Building followers, self sharing, relisting and sharing new closets will keep you relevant. You cannot expect to to put in 30-60 minutes and be done for the day. You should continue to be active on the app throughout the day. Even though I do this most mornings, I still continue my regular reseller work duties. An if time allows, I definitely share my closet especially around the parties.

I have learned that being busy on the app is what works for me. Play around with numbers and keep track of what works for you. For me, having a schedule is what works. This 60 minute method is how I start my day and keeps me busy.

Homemade Dog Treats

Yield: 12 dozen

Ingredients:

1 cup Coconut Oil

1 1/2 cups Chicken Broth

1 cup Almond Milk

2 Eggs

1 tsp Salt

2 tbsp Parsley

2 tbsp Thyme

2 tbsp Rosemary

4 cups Oats

6 cups Wheat Flour

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Line 4 cookie sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, combine coconut oil, broth and milk. Add salt, eggs, and seasonings. Add oats and blend together, add flour 1 cup at a time. Dough will be thick.
  3. Turn dough onto floured counter and knead a few times. Divide into 4 sections. Working with one section at a time, roll between 2 sheets of parchment paper about 1/4 inch thick. Using a pizza cutter, cut into desired squares. I cut mine into 2×2 inch squares. Repeat with other sections of dough.
  4. Bake at 325 for 60 minutes. Let treats dry in cool oven for up to 24 hrs to harden. Break into pieces and place in desired container or jar. No need to store in an air tight container.

A Reseller’s Passion Blog Features Trishvan99

Leslie Tucker recently did a podcast series featuring stay at home moms. Moms that are using their free time to earn extra income. The women featured had some amazing stories to tell. I had the pleasure of being featured in this series, although my story is far from amazing. I am a true stay at home mom, in every sense of the word. My husband works and provides financially for our family, leaving me to care for the house and currently the only child left at home. This gives me plenty of time to ‘resell’ in between ‘mom’ duties and my ‘mom’ schedule.

Goodwill Phoenix Thrift Meet up

Goodwill Central & Northern AZ hosts Thrift Meet Up

10 lucky winners were chosen to participate in Goodwill’s Thrift Meet Up with Laura Madden @iamlauramadden on June 27th 2019. The Meet Up took place at the Phoenix Goodwill on 3901 E. Thunderbird Rd. On top of being Thursday $1 tag day, each participant received a $20 gift card to shop.

I was lucky to be chosen as one of the 10 winners. After a brief introduction by Laura about the importance of sustainable fashion, we were off to shop! I myself am a reseller which means I shop for others. I rarely get to shop for myself these days. Being a stay at home mom means my wardrobe consists of sweatpants and tee shirts.

The fact that this is $1 tag day AND I get a $20 gift card!!! Let the fun begin. It was an amazing time with other fellow thrifters. We shopped, talked and shopped some more. I had forgotten how fun is to just shop, try on different outfits and encourage each other. I walked away with 10 $1 items along with other 6 great deals. My goodies will require their own post, coming soon.

Follow @goodwillaz on instagram for information on how you can be a part of the next Thrift Meet Up.

What is trishvan99????

What is trishvan99? What does it mean? I’ve had my fair share of questions as to the name-title….

Thrishvan99 came about way way long ago. Back at the beginning of the internet and email. My then husband and I shared an email account-yes it was a thing. Simple, first part of his first name + first part of our last name add @________.com =shared email.

Then, it happened. Quoting the lovely Wendy Williams the ‘Cheatation” happened. I was now left to open my own email account. The horror! At the time I did have the nickname Trish, so Instinctively, part of my first name + first part of my last name (at the time-I know), but, I was asked for a #, I choose 99, genius right? It was 1999 by the way. The year my life fell apart or a new beginning.

So there we were, Trishvan99. I have used this for everything since then. Logins, email, forums, apps etc. This has nothing to do with reselling, which is how I spend most of my free time these days. It is me, my name, who I am. I know and fear that someday, some mofo will come at me claiming this isn’t my name and I owe him for using the van. Well, he can get in the van and take a hike.

I should look into claiming this name, trademark, register or whatever this would be called. I know nothing about this. If anyone can lead me in the right direction-send me a message. I would hate to have to order a new one of these signs……

The Beginning

Reselling to me came along by accident. I was looking for a specific dress I already had. This dress fit perfectly and I had to have it in another color or 2 or 3. I googled the dress and Poshmark came up. Not knowing what this was, I dismissed it. A few days later, the same thing. I ended up getting the app in August 2016 and made several purchases. As the items came, I noticed these items were from people’s homes. Someone sold and sent these pieces of clothing from their home! Genius!
